PHA has a selection of non-pantomime titles available, which are particularly designed for theatres looking for a ‘pantomime type’ show, without affecting the business and standing of productions already in line for the Christmas season. These shows can involve audience participation, or include a Dame or other pantomime traditions. Most theatres prefer to put on a children’s musical or play.
Key ingredients of all PHA’s shows for children
• A strong logical story
• Comedy to suit all tastes
• A running time suitable for school visits
• An emphasis on fun
Some of the many titles PHA can offer
• Tales from the Jungle Book
• The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Other titles (now accepted as pantomimes, but formerly children’s musicals, effectively produced in their more traditional format)
• Beauty and the Beast
• Goldilocks and the Three Bears
• Peter Pan
• Sleeping Beauty
• Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Children’s musicals play very well during school holidays, with early performance times. The shows can also be performed as matinees within the set of a larger show, which may be based at the theatre for a longer season, thus maximising the number of performers and the potential for increased revenue. Week-long, part-week and one-nighters are all considered, depending on the needs of individual theatres.
