Hilarious Bernie Clifton to headline at the Civic

Announcing Aylesbury’s All Star Pantomime - 11 April 2008

Everybody’s Favourite Pantomime
Aylesbury Civic - Cinderella
Thursday 11 December – Sunday 4 January 2009

Following the great success of Peter Pan, The Aylesbury Civic promise a truly enchanting Christmas show this year, as they present another classic Christmas show, the timeless, Cinderella. Paul Holman Associates are pleased to announce that head-lining the show this year will be a man renowned as one of the craziest visual comedians in the business, the hilariously funny Bernie Clifton.

Bernie Clifton has established himself, in no uncertain terms, as one of the funniest and most versatile entertainers in British show business, through numerous appearances on television, including his own series Theatre Royal, in concert and cabaret, summer season and pantomime. This season will be his fifth pantomime working with PHA.

He made his TV debut on BBC’s The Good Old Days, followed by several appearances on The Comedians. Next came three series of Crackerjack, interspersed between theatre and cabaret tours in Britain, and overseas in Australia.

After an appearance on The Royal Variety Show, Bernie was inundated with offers of work, including a contract with ATV which culminated in his own special, Bernie Clifton on Stage, and led to his series Theatre Royal. Since then, he has appeared regularly on television, guesting on quiz shows, variety shows and chat shows and even turned his hand to straight acting when he starred in the farce The Mating Game.

Bernie has also made dozens of radio appearances and has hosted, for several years, his own hilarious BBC radio series Bernie Clifton’s Comedy Store. He has also travelled throughout Great Britain for the BBC, working as compere for the popular series Three In a Row.

Summer season has played a major part in his career and he has appeared in many since his summer debut in Babbacombe in 1969. Recent seasons have seen him enjoying success at all the major seaside resorts.

In recent years, Bernie has guested in French and Saunders and with Lee and Herring in This Morning, with Richard and Judy. He also featured in the BBC’s romantic comedy Love Soup, and his appearance on the video of Amarillo, with Peter Kay and Tony Christie, meant he was regularly on the screens, as the song went to Number One, where it stayed for several weeks.

Bernie revealed the range of his talents once again, when he began presenting his own regular show on BBC Radio Sheffield, and went down a storm at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Oswald the Ostrich in his one-man show.

Cinderella opens at The Aylesbury Civic on Thursday 11 December and runs until Sunday 4 January. The box office is now open and tickets are going fast. So, to avoid any disappointment, book now! Join us to boo and hiss the ugly sisters and see our wonderful Cinderella get her Prince charming!
